Leviticus - Chapter 18

Bible Study Notes

Leviticus 18:1-5 The Lord warned the people not to behave wrongly like those where they came from in Egypt and where they are going in Canaan. They must always obey the Lord’s laws and statutes.

Leviticus 18:6-18 To the Man the Lord says: You are not allowed to marry your mother, step-mother, sister, step-sister, grand-daughter, aunt, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, a woman and her daughter or her grand-daughter, and a woman and her sister.

To the Woman, the Lord says: You are not allowed to marry your father, step-father, brother, step-brother, grand-son, uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, a man and his son or his grand-son, and a man and his brother.

Leviticus 18:19-23 A man shall not touch a woman who is unclean because of blood. Men and woman shall not commit adultery. They are not to sacrifice their children to false gods. They are not to be homosexual. They shall not marry animals.

Leviticus 18:24-30 The people in Canaan, the land that the children of Israel will possess, do those things mentioned above. The Lord is going to use the children of Israel to punish them for these sins and drive them out of the land so the children of Israel can live there instead. If the children of Israel also commit these same sins, then God will also drive them out of the land, which he did during the Assyrian and Babylonian captivities.
